Herman Miller is excited to introduce the Girard Stool: an archival design by Alexander Girard, reimagined for the modern collector with sustainable materials and a curated selection of textiles that celebrate Girard’s iconic patterns, as well as the brand’s current fabric refresh. The original Girard Stool, courtesy of Herman Miller Archives.
Originally designed in 1967 as part of the Girard Group, a limited-run collection inspired by Alexander Girard's furniture designs for Braniff International, the Girard Stool functions as a footrest, a perch, or an extra seat.
The 2025 reintroduction brings a design classic back into the spotlight, honoring Alexander Girard’s legacy as the founding director of Herman Miller’s textile division and a key figure in mid-century modern furniture design
With clean lines and a refined form, the stool reflects Girard’s eye for detail and color-driven aesthetic. Now made from sustainable materials, including recycled aluminum legs and bio-based foam, this launch also supports Herman Miller’s commitment to environmental responsibility, blending timeless design with modern values.
