Design Pool Introduces Natural Healing-Inspired Collection

Design Pool, an online marketplace where designers can access a library of textile designs and connect to printers, launched its unique Swallowtail Farm Collection at NeoCon 2023. The Swallowtail Farm Collection showcases six curated medicinal plants, including Yarrow, Queen Anne's Lace, Roses, Bee Balm, Lady's Mantle and Elderberry. Each of the 14 patterns are available in six to nine colorways harmonizing with Sherwin-Williams' healthcare color palettes.

The collection pioneers a holistic approach to healthcare interior design, integrating the healing attributes of nature into healthcare spaces.

"Swallowtail Farm Collection transcends traditional design by creating holistic environments that nurture physical and emotional well-being," said Kristen Dettoni, founder and lead designer, Design Pool. "It's not just about crafting spaces that look good but are also imbued with a deeper purpose – to foster a sense of tranquility and wellness."

The Swallowtail Farm Collection germinated from a partnership between Dettoni and Lauren Pignatello, a herbalist from Swallowtail Farm & Creamery in rural Maine. Pignatello's vast knowledge of medicinal plants, flowers and herbs was translated into the fabric of the collection's patterns by Dettoni. The collaboration infuses a nature-oriented dimension into the designs and highlights the thoughtful integration of traditional medicinal wisdom into modern interior aesthetics.

"Our collaboration bridges design with nature's therapeutic value," Pignatello said. "We anticipate these patterns inspiring tranquility and wellness in healthcare settings, marking a shift in how patients and families perceive and experience such environments."

Design Pool has teamed up with New Hampshire-based printer LDI Interiors to digitally print the designs on EnviroLeather PRINTS, a luxurious, leather-like line of wipeable, coated fabrics. EnviroLeather uses innovative technology in performance coatings and formulations, leading the movement toward sustainable, high-performance, less toxic fabrics.

All Swallowtail Farm Collection designs contain Design Pool's signature digital texture, which gives the effect of woven cloth, even though it is digitally printed on coated fabric.

Dettoni has more than three decades of experience designing patterns and understands that images of nature can positively impact the patient experience in healthcare settings.

"I believe in the transformative power of design,” Dettoni said. “Swallowtail Farm Collection does more than beautify spaces – it invites calm, healing and a connection with the natural world."
