A Beloved Lamp Returns - with new tech & colors

Luminator, a darling of design lovers for decades, is now back from Flos. The ultra-sleek, minimal floor lamp returns, updated with a brand-new palette of striking pop colors, upgraded features, modern technology, and increased sustainability.

Originally launched in 1954 by brothers Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni with its simple tripod design and elegant stature, Luminator is an exercise in functional minimalism and remains incredibly modern over 60 years later. Now back in vivid new colorways that accentuate its streamlined shape, this revolutionary design takes on new character in a pop color palette of yellow, red, white, and light blue - in addition to the original understated anthracite. A new painting technique also guarantees a more sustainable design process and product.

“When I think about it, I realize that Luminator was specifically conceived for the Compasso d’Oro 1955: it was our answer to the request to ‘provide a useful shape’ to the Italian industry" -Achille Castiglioni, Domus interview, 1995

As an homage to a “useful design,” Luminator was conceived as an approach to essential function without sacrificing elegance. The Luminator floor lamp perches on three delicate metal legs that support a slender cylinder stem, on top of which the LED and diffuser cast an indirect ambient light. The bold yellow hue is inspired by the trademark color of the Achille Castiglioni Foundation and will be exclusively available through usa.flos.com and at the Flos New York showroom. All others are available online and in-store from Flos and its partners.
