Designtex has launched Ethos, its first coated textile made with biobased polyurethane. This innovative material is partially derived from renewable biological resources, with a verified 12% biobased content. Ethos is free from harmful substances such as VOCs and PFAS and is recognized in various sustainability programs, including USGBC’s LEED and WELL Building Standard.
The textile boasts a texture similar to pebbled leather and is available in 32 colors, combining high-performance attributes with sustainability. Ethos features a recycled polyester backing and a silicone topcoat, showcasing Designtex's commitment to biobased materials, which dates back to the 1960s with the introduction of Mohair Plus. The company has progressively expanded its biobased offerings, incorporating various natural fibers and sustainable practices over the decades.
The R&D team plans to continue improving Ethos as advancements in material technology emerge.
