TRAME debuted ENLACE ENLACE in Saudi Arabia at Downtown Downtown Design in Riyadh Design in Riyadh from May 20-23 May 20-23, 2025 2025, inviting attendees to explore the intersection of digital design and traditional craftsmanship. Designed in collaboration with Aranda\Lasch Aranda\Lasch and Maison Louis Drucker Maison Louis Drucker, ENLACE reimagines the iconic Parisian cafe chair through generative algorithms and expert hand-weaving.
At TRAME’s booth, visitors had the opportunity to interact with the custom-designed algorithm custom-designed algorithm developed by Aranda\Lasch and Art Blocks Engine technology, designing their own unique chair pattern. This interactive experience highlights the co-creative potential of computational design and artisanal skill, reinforcing TRAME’s mission to bridge heritage craft with digital innovation. Since 1885, Maison L. Drucker has defined the visual and material language of the Parisian bistro chair, known for its distinctive bentwood frame and intricate woven patterns. With ENLACE, TRAME and Aranda\Lasch introduce a new dimension to this historic object, blending contemporary generative technology with time-honored craftsmanship. “Our collaboration with Aranda\Lasch and Maison L. Drucker symbolizes the harmonious marriage of innovation and heritage, breathing new life into a cherished symbol of French culture. Through this project, we honor tradition while embracing the limitless possibilities of the digital age, offering collectors a tangible piece of Parisian history transformed for the modern world.” - Ismail Tazi, CEO of TRAME At the heart of the collection is a custom-designed algorithm custom-designed algorithm developed by Aranda\Lasch, which generates unique weaving patterns through an interactive online interface interactive online interface. This system enables an open-ended creative process, where each design emerges through the interplay of digital logic and artisanal skill. Each chair, crafted by Maison Drucker’s master weavers, embodies this fusion—an algorithmically generated pattern translated into a physical object through meticulous hand-weaving techniques. Art Blocks Engine technology plays a crucial role in this process, allowing for the generative creation of unique patterns that can be translated into woven designs. ENLACE is more than an evolution of a classic—it is a testament to the potential of generative design to enhance traditional making processes. By expanding the expressive possibilities of cane weaving, the collection underscores how digital tools can work in tandem with craft rather than replace it, fostering new forms of collaboration and enabling designs that were previously unimaginable. “TRAME’s connections with a network of traditional craftspeople across Europe and globally are facilitating not only this collaboration but also various other intriguing partnerships. They play a pivotal role in establishing a gateway for generative digital art and design to intersect with the realm of traditional craftsmanship,” explained Benjamin Aranda. Through this collaboration, TRAME continues its mission to bridge the worlds of craft and technology, fostering new forms of co-creation between designers, artisans, and computational systems. The ENLACE collection invites us to rethink the role of digital design in the handmade, offering a contemporary perspective on one of France’s most recognizable design icons.
