Carl Hansen & Son has revitalized two of Kaare Klint’s most visually interesting designs - the Spherical Bed and English Chair. Combining masterful cabinetry techniques with sophisticated creativity, both the bed and the chair embrace rounded, organic curves for a show-stopping appeal.

The Spherical Bed, which was reintroduced during 3 Days of Design, initially debuted in 1938. Hailed as a mathematical stroke of genius then and today, it is deeply rooted in geometry - all of the dimensions are unbelievably precise, given the lack of 3D programs or other digital design aids in the 1930s. The space between the headboard, footboard, and sides follows the shape of a fictitious sphere, mirroring its rounded edge. Now available in a double bed - this complex, artisan-made piece takes a month to make, as each piece of wood is hand picked and the bed is entirely hand assembled, to ensure precision.

Klint’s English Chair also dates back to the 1930s, but its elegant design transcends time, as it was inspired by old English chairs from the 18th century (Klint often revisited existing designs with the goal of optimizing them). In this chair, wood is masterfully used as a decorative element by incorporating it as a contrasting material to the French canework, which the back, sides, and seat are made out of. Like the Spherical Bed, the craftsmanship of the English Chair is paramount, as each piece of wood is hand selected and the chair is then hand assembled, including the canework, which takes a skilled artisan about a week to weave for just one chair.
