Carnegie has expanded its line of Biobased Xorel products, the world's first bio-based, climate-positive, commercial textile. As part of the Conscious Collection, the new patterns, Nexus and Dash, enhance Carnegie’s award-winning Biobased Xorel brand, which was first introduced 10 years ago. Biobased Xorel is made from rapidly renewable sugarcane with self-powered production that uses zero water. For every ton of material produced, 2.5 tons of carbon is sequestered, making Biobased Xorel a climate-positive innovation.
Rising above the greenwashing noise amidst an abundance of misleading claims and use of vague terms like "bio-sourced," Biobased Xorel is 100% PVC-free, finish-free, and PFAS-free. Greenpeace states that PVC, commonly known as vinyl, is the single most environmentally damaging of all plastics on the planet. Carnegie is committed to authentic sustainability, developing 100% PVC-free products with the understanding that there is no such thing as "sustainable vinyl" due to the irreconcilable toxicity of the chemistry used in its manufacturing, specifically the use of the vinyl chloride monomer. Generating a significantly reduced carbon footprint, Biobased Xorel is a direct response to an increasing need for designers and specifiers to maintain vigilance against false advertising and greenwashing.
As the only B-Corp-certified textile manufacturer, Carnegie’s commitment to authentic sustainability is backed by rigorous transparency and third-party certification. Biobased Xorel is Cradle to Cradle Gold and Living Product Challenge certified. It also achieved SCS Indoor Advantage Gold and is verified as a USDA-certified biobased product.
“Biobased Xorel truly sets the standard for a truly environmentally-conscious design that simultaneously inspires creativity, enhances performance, and promotes true environmental stewardship,” said Heather Bush, Chief Creative Officer at Carnegie. “Carnegie is committed to inspiring positive change within the architecture and design community, and this innovative collection equips designers with the tools they need to effect meaningful change, encouraging them to never settle, always do better, and constantly raise the bar for sustainable design.”
The new Biobased Xorel offerings include:
Nexus: Where quality meets legacy, Nexus is a timeless staple with over 24 years of history surpassing all sustainable textiles on the market for wallcovering, upholstered walls, wrapped panels, tackable or acoustical panels, Xorel Artform®, and headboards. The new color line has a total of 18 textured neutrals that utilize both matte and lustrous yarns fused into dimensional linen built to endure.
Dash: With generations of trust and accountability, Dash is proof that you can have it all in one product without compromise. Introduced over 20 years ago, Carnegie is launching all-new Dash colors – a fluid palette of 14 celestial tones and muted pops of color that are reminiscent of raw silk and applicable for all end-use applications such as wallcovering, upholstered walls, wrapped panels, tackable or acoustical panels, Xorel Artform®, upholstery, and headboards.
Nexus and Dash are a part of the Conscious Collection, which is created for designers seeking to make a conscious choice in building a better future. Equally responsive to beauty, performance, and durability considerations, Biobased Xorel is engineered to withstand the rigors of high-traffic environments without compromising on aesthetics. Bleach cleanable and taking hospital grade disinfectants, Biobased Xorel is inherently stain resistant, and scrubbable, with durability of 100K double rubs or higher. Versatile and adaptable, the fabric is suitable for a wide range of applications, from healthcare and hospitality to workplace and education environments.
