In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Freedom Chair’s revolutionary ergonomic design, Humanscale previewed the Freedom 25th Anniversary Signature Edition at Fulton Market Design Days. This limited run of 250 chairs pays tribute to the iconic Freedom Chair, which transformed seating comfort and support, breaking free from traditional limitations, while offering unparalleled support and effortless adaptation to every body.
Designed by Niels Diffrient, the Freedom Chair addresses the complexity of traditional ergonomic chairs. Diffrient's vision, combined with Humanscale founder Bob King's pursuit of intuitive design, resulted in the first self-adjusting chair in 1999. This chair eliminated the need for manual adjustments, offering natural movement and support, adapting to the sitter, not the other way around.
The 25th Anniversary Signature Edition features an upholstered back, polished aluminum trim, and is available in a luxury selection of premium fabric or leather. Each chair is signed and numbered, making it a collector's item that embodies both innovation and elegance.
For 25 years, the Freedom Chair has led the market in ergonomic seating. The new Signature Edition continues this legacy, celebrating a quarter-century of comfort and innovation. The waitlist is now open for this exclusive edition.
