Room & Board and the brand’s commercial arm Room & Board for Business, announce the expansion of the Urban Wood Project in partnership with Storm Trees in Minnesota. With the expansion of the project, the Graft collection of tables are now available to residential and commercial markets in reclaimed white oak, exemplifying Room & Board’s ongoing commitment to being a sustainability leader that makes a positive impact.
“Our collaboration with sustainable partners across America diverts urban wood from landfills and creates a circular supply chain,” says Emily McGarvey, Director of Sustainability for Room & Board. “In welcoming Storm Trees to the Urban Wood Project, we added a new reclaimed wood source for the unique Graft collection.”
In Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Storm Trees founders Andy McLean and Patrick Hughley, work with their team to salvage fallen, local trees and process them into lumber. Aligning with Room & Board’s ethos, the small business aims to turn salvaged timber into valuable unique wood products while minimizing carbon emissions.
Through the new partnership, the Graft collection is now available in white oak wood in coffee, side, and console tables in addition to the darker grafted walnut from northern California. The curved corners and sleek drawers seamlessly connect with French dovetail joinery true to Room & Board’s commitment to quality craftsmanship. Pricing begins at $999 with a variety of sizes for any project.
The Urban Wood Project first began in Baltimore with an initiative between Room & Board and the USDA Forest Service, working with local and national partners around the country to source wood that is destined for landfills, reclaiming it into unique, modern furnishings. At present, Room & Board has Urban Wood Project partners in Maryland, California, Oregon, Minnesota, Michigan, and New York. The Graft collection in reclaimed white oak marks the beginning of a new partnership with Storm Trees, continuing Room & Board’s commitment to people and the planet.
Room & Board is on track to divert 1,000 trees annually from the waste stream by the end of 2025 through the Urban Wood Project. By continuing to collaborate with like-minded partners and buyers from residential to commercial scales, Room & Board strives to protect the environment through collections like Graft.
