Industrial designer/mechanical engineer Cameron Smith reckons designers have put "a lot of energy…into making tables adjust size to meet different needs." With his new Crisscross Chair, "The same vigor has now been applied to flexible seating."
"Most folding chairs are designed to be lightweight and portable. Their use is temporary and they give up quality, comfort and appeal for mobility," he writes. In contrast, "The Crisscross Chair takes a unique approach. Designed to emphasize style, quality and comfort in an everyday use chair, the Crisscross chair provides someone the ability to host a dinner party with four or ten people without sacrificing the setting."
"A geared mechanism concealed within the inner leg structure creates a synchronized motion with the seat and legs when folded. When the armrests are folded, the entire chair nests within the front legs making it easy to relocate to another room or store for another time."
The Crisscross is available for order from Smith's FurnitureSmith brand.
