OM Seating continues its streak of supremely functional, unabashedly playful, people-first introductions with Plot Twist™, a mobile, multiformat tablet chair that changes the way we think about the casual, collaborative work narrative.
Plot Twist brings together the functional benefits of a simple work chair with the warm comfort of a pouf, then adds an optional height-adjustable writing surface. The result is a surprisingly self-contained and multifunctional mobile workseat that easily adapts to multiple contexts. “We began by recognizing the need for a more flexible mobile writing surface,” explains Wilson Chow, OM President. “We felt that today’s on-the-go idea workers needed somewhere to pause while transitioning between the formality of a conference room and the heads-down privacy of a desk. What happens when we’re in those interstitial spaces—those epiphany spaces? What if we need to jot down a genius idea or sketch an impromptu concept onto our notebook or tablet? These moments became the origin story for Plot Twist.”
Designed by Jon and Chris Panichella of Achella Design, Plot Twist serves up solid fundamentals. As a standalone seating element, Plot Twist is a playful, lightweight workseat that can be configured with or without a back rest or a retractable poly rope handle, and a durable skid base or optional casters for effortless movement. For more traditional, productivity-oriented settings, Plot Twist offers both fixed and adjustableheight table tops in two shapes. With 10 inches of height range, these adaptive work surfaces easily allow for seated and standing solo work, collaborations, and even simple presentations. The lift column is a customdesign that delivers a smooth, stable, and predictable glide throughout its range. To raise, simply lift the table top and release it at the desired height—no fumbling with levers or paddles. To lower, press the button flush-set into the top and push downward. Swiveling the table around the seat makes it easy to flip the script between left- and right-handed work surfaces.
“We storyboard scenarios when we’re concepting new products,” adds Eric MacDonald, OM Product Design Manager. “Our starting point is our mantra to provide seating that allows users to author their own stories. We want the design process to consider how people actually work, not simply how they’re supposed to work. Its been satisfying to work with the Panichellas. Our partnership enabled us to achieve everything we set out to functionally, and to re-imagine what a task-pouf-tablet chair can be.”
“We are changing the conversation around expectations of work, and what we need from our chairs,” sums up Chow. “OM believes in design that imagines people first, design that expresses whimsy and the joy of motion. Who says the workspace can’t be delightful?”
