Boss Design introduced Amelia – a modern reimagining of the classic wingback chair, combining timeless elegance with enticing comfort in an appealing slimline form.
Named in celebration of the 1930s aviator, Amelia Earhart, this light and streamlined seating blurs the lines between workplace, hospitality, and domestic living. With a single, organic perimeter line, Amelia gracefully alights in any setting. Light yet durable, the upper section combines the ultimate comfort with functional wings for acoustic and visual privacy.
“Wingback chairs are usually big and cumbersome. We wanted to create something light and contoured. Amelia’s form is driven by a ribbon-like line that defines its edge, for a gentle, elegant, modern outcome,” says Aaron Clarkson, Amelia’s designer.
The design was carefully honed to harmonize with other contemporary lines including Paloma, Manta and DNA, making it easy for interior designers and specifiers to choose beautiful, complimentary seating in their décor schemes.
TECHNICAL INNOVATION FOR CREATIVE FREEDOM
The svelte form Amelia brings to the wingback category has been made possible by Boss Designs’ innovative application of the latest polyurethane foam injection molding processes. The foam is set around an inner steel frame giving Amelia strength, durability, and longevity. The technique gives the design team great freedom to push for thinner, pared-down forms, reducing the amount of polymer in the product.
“We’re a prototype-hungry team and we never rush things to market. Instead, we take the time to cycle through developmental iterations to refine and refine and refine until we reach a perfectly balanced form, as you can see with Amelia,” says Mark Barrell, Design Director.
A FLEXIBLE LOOK
With a single upholsterer’s seam concealed along the perimeter line, Amelia can be covered in a range of fabrics or leathers, making it suitable for any décor scheme or brand colorway. Covering the upper section and cushion in different fabrics is possible for a striking two-tone effect. Amelia is available in a choice of four-leg frame, sled frame, cast aluminum four-star base, or timber four-star base.
