Emeco introduces “Truss” collection by Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec

Emeco and Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec introduce the multifunctional “Truss” collection, a family of tables, sofas and benches.

This modular system of architectural furniture sits at the intersection of simplicity and functionality. The Bouroullec brothers kept only the essential elements to create an elegant and flexible solution for any setting – home, café, office, to use inside or out.

The pure form and classic construction reflect Emeco’s quest for making simple, durable and timeless furniture from honest, sustainable materials. “Truss” employs a sturdy aluminum frame structure with a traditional truss system with side panels in strong and long-lasting Douglas Fir plywood, engineered to handle extreme loads.

“Simplicity is a long process. Truss was to be naked and it took a while to strip it down to the best minimum. What is simplicity? It’s a kind of transparency, when the nature of things appears. It is a state where eyes understand everything while people’s behaviour is not compromised by a stylish figure. I believe Truss is generous with the openness it provides. It’s made for a group, it’s made for a space, it’s made to be together.”

The multifunctional tables, benches and sofas come in three sizes - Small, Medium and Large - which can be joined together as a continuous piece or configured as needed to bring people together to work, meet, rest or eat. A low coffee table completes the family, perfect for lounge and living spaces.

Emeco’s aluminum know-how is reflected in the aluminum extrusions with soft corners, and finely perforated aluminum panels. All parts are made from recycled aluminum at the Emeco factory in Hanover, Pennsylvania. The aluminum base and top panels are offered in Emeco’s signature hand - brushed finish as well as four powder coat colors, chosen to suit a wide range of interiors: White, Dark Grey, Orange and Green. The US-sourced Douglas Fir plywood was chosen for its strength-to-weight superiority. It is marinegrade, typically used for boats and other aquatic applications, making it suitable for outdoor use. It comes with either a natural or a dark stain finish.

“It takes a lot of work to make something simple. You must truly understand all the elements and the challenges of the materials to come up with an elegant solution. With “Truss,” the Bouroullec brothers have created a collection with the purest of geometric forms that will always be useful, appealing and relevant.”
— Gregg Buchbinder, Emeco CEO

For additional comfort and elegance, upholstered cushions are offered for the sofas and benches. Selected to complement the straightforward aesthetic of “Truss,” the upholstery options feature a curated range of fabrics in timeless neutrals and brights, including options for outdoor use. Like all Emeco products, “Truss” is simple, functional and made to last, reflecting our mission to sit lightly on the planet. Made in USA.

About Emeco Founded on the principle “Begin with what’s left over, turn it into what will last,” American furniture maker Emeco, has been building chairs from recycled materials for over 77 years. In the throes of World War II, the U.S. Navy needed a place to sit. Emeco took on the challenge and in 1944 the 1006 Navy Chair® was born; built by hand at our factory in Hanover, Pennsylvania from scrap aluminum – a wartime necessity. Today, we continue to handcraft chairs that are so strong they are passed down through generations – that’s how we define “sustainability.”
