H Contract, a supplier of upholstered seating and case goods for the senior living market, is making its debut in the glider seating category with a four-model lineup that capitalizes on the health and safety benefits gliders can deliver to senior citizens.

The new chairs provide a slow, relaxing movement that has been known to provide many health benefits including relief of stress and anxiety, increased balance and muscle tone as well as arthritis and back pain relief. The designs also allow users to lock the glider mechanism in place without assistance, providing seniors with a feeling of independence.

“While the health benefits of traditional rocking chairs are well-known, our new gliders give seniors the added feeling of independence because they don't need to have a caregiver present while they're gliding,” said Dean Jarrett, vice president and general manager of H Contract. “Unlike a rocking chair, the gliding mechanism can be locked by simply pulling a lever on the right side of the chair, adding stability for safe ingress and egress.” Jarrett said the gliders also fill a gap in the company's product line, which will allow H Contract to answer the needs of their customers.

“With the health and psychological well-being benefits they provide, we're seeing increased demand for upholstered motion seating styles in the senior living market,” Jarrett said. “The new gliders complement our existing product line of stationary seating and case goods and positions us as a premier one-stop contract furniture resource for our senior living interior design partners.”

Combining residential style with commercial functionality, resulting in a safe, durable product with an 'at-home' feel for the aging population, the new gliders feature a fixed seat deck with sinuous springs and cleanout areas to manage spills. In addition, a moisture barrier between the fabric cover and cushioning materials helps to prevent moisture penetration on the seat cushion.

The barrier can be added to the arms and back as an option. Inspired by residential designs, the four new gliders – Clifton, Sterling, Emma and Julia – range in style from traditional to contemporary and provide a stylish alternative to many of the institutional designs available in the marketplace.

The Sterling glider is being added to the existing Sterling upholstery collection which includes a stationary chair, settee and sofa. The collection features tailored lines, classic design and a timeless appeal that is perfect for commercial areas that desire a residential look and feel.
