Mews - Habitats for the New Work Landscape

Mews Collection

Boss Design launched Mews – the popular modular workplace pod system – in the United States. Mews gives architects and designers a toolkit to create flexible and functional workplace habitats meeting the needs of today’s organizations and their teams.

The Mews system has been designed to strike the right balance between focus and collaboration, with pods that can be specified for focus working, private or open meetings. User comfort brought to the fore with a sensory experience through tactile fabrics, color, and upholstery options to craft an ergonomic workspace that is visually stimulating and offers a relaxed ambiance.

“Remote and hybrid working are here to stay, and Mews caters to flexible workplace scenarios where people need to collaborate, ideate, and make decisions in person and via video calls. By creating a desirable environment in which to do so, Mews helps our customers entice their teams back to the office with habitats that meet their needs,” says Dan Chong, President of Boss Design North America.

DESTINATION SPACES The Mews Collection combines considered design, ergonomics, and functionality to turn workplaces into destination spaces. Specifying a floorplan is easy using modular options which have a consistent footprint. The concept was inspired by traditional mews architecture found in British cities, while its look is a nod to the black steel frames of Art Deco windows seen across London in the mid-20th century. Used as an architectural intervention, Mews softens the look and feel of a scheme with its curtaining and finely finished upholstery options. Each pod has lighting, temperature, acoustic and air quality features to create an ergonomic and comfortable place to work. “We’ve used lighting design to optimize Mews pods for videoconferencing. Light is reflected off the fabric wall facing the user for a more flattering effect so that they appear better lit on screen. This in turn makes them feel more confident during calls. Mews is all about user comfort,” says Rob Keddie, of Boss Design North America.

FOCUS, CONNECT, COLLABORATE At the heart of the Mews system are three pods. Focus is a private space for video calls and concentration working; Connect is an open or closed space for small meets with fixed seating; while Collaborate is an interconnecting curtain screen ideal to delineate spaces. Dial and Brief add to the collection with small footprint single-user spaces for calls and focus work, and the Connect XL pods offer larger meeting spaces but the same levels of comfort and intimacy.

Comprehensive options are available across power and connectivity, fabric and upholstery specifications, seating, desking, and tabling, glazing, curtaining and more. Using color, texture and lighting, the specifier can shape the sensory qualities of their Mews habitat, defining the space both within and adjacent to pod clusters.

“Enabling customers to implement architectural interventions without resorting to building alterations, Mews is smart and better for the environment. Mews pods can be added to, moved and reconfigured as your journey in the space continues, controlling costs while creating a workplace people want to inhabit,” says Mark Barrell, Design Director, Boss Design.
