New Fall Furnishings from Carl Hansen & Son

Faaborg Chair

Celebrating its 110th birthday this year, the Faaborg Chair is a beacon of Danish design, the leading force behind what is now known as the Danish Modern phenomenon. The extremely simple design and unity between structure, materials and function set the Faaborg Chair apart from its predecessors and is today considered as an icon of Danish design. Designed by Kaare Klint in 1914, The Faaborg Chair is characterized by its relatively thin legs, tapering to a point at the base, and its curved back, which lend the chair a particularly light, elegant and refined expression. At the same time, the semicircular back extends forward to create an armrest that almost envelops the sitter, providing a sense of privacy while seated. The chair was originally produced with a French rattan seat, sides and back. For greater comfort, the chair has been produced with a seat upholstered with leather or fabric since 1964. The back and sides still feature hand-woven French rattan, and it takes more than 12 hours for a skilled craftsman to weave one chair.

Beak Chair

Ole Wanscher's Beak Chair is a stunning blend of comfort and craftsmanship to enhance any living space. Upholstered in luxurious lambskin from New Zealand, this armchair is more than just a seat; it's a statement piece. Its name pays homage to a bird's beak, with armrests in oak or walnut designed to echo that sleek, sculptural form.

Spherical Bed

The Spherical Bed, which was reintroduced during 3 Days of Design, initially debuted in 1938, designed by Kaare Klint. Hailed as a mathematical stroke of genius then and today, it is deeply rooted in geometry - all of the dimensions are unbelievably precise, given the lack of 3D programs or other digital design aids in the 1930s. The space between the headboard, footboard, and sides follows the shape of a fictitious sphere, mirroring its rounded edge. Now available in a double bed - this complex, artisan-made piece takes a month to make, as each piece of wood is hand picked and the bed is entirely hand assembled, to ensure precision.

English Chair

Kaare Klint’s English Chair dates back to the 1930s, but its elegant design transcends time, as it was inspired by old English chairs from the 18th century (Klint often revisited existing designs with the goal of optimizing them). In this chair, wood is masterfully used as a decorative element by incorporating it as a contrasting material to the French canework, which the back, sides, and seat are made out of. Like the Spherical Bed, the craftsmanship of the English Chair is paramount, as each piece of wood is hand selected and the chair is then hand assembled, including the canework, which takes a skilled artisan about a week to weave for just one chair.

BM0489 Table Bench

Carl Hansen & Son originally relaunched the BM0489 Table Bench by Borge Mogensen in 2020 in rattan but has now added a new paper cord variant to the collection. Available in a long and short version, both can be combined with other furniture or serve as independent pieces of furniture in the hallway, as a sideboard in the living room, or as a bedside table.

BM0057 Sideboard

Originally designed in 1957, Borge Mogensen’s BM0057 Sideboard combines beautiful joinery and aesthetics to provide a piece of furniture that adapts to everyday life. The sideboard contains two adjustable shelves and drawers made of FSC-certified oak.
