"What if we completely rethought the sofa?" – this question brought Magis together with Stefan Diez for a joint experiment: a flexible system made from recycled and recyclable materials.

A sofa built as a sustainable system whose elements can be exchanged and changed at any time: Stefan Diez and Magis have been working on this pioneering idea for four years. Visitors to the Salone del Mobile 2019 were already able to take a first glimpse at the prototype of "Costume", and now the result is final. "Systems are something like an alphabet. For me, it's not so much about providing ready-made answers, but about offering building blocks with which you can formulate words, sentences, and stories," says Stefan Diez.

The building blocks for "Costume" are a body made of polyethylene, recycled from parts of furniture and car production, an insert made of pocket spring core, and a layer of polyurethane foam. The finishing touch is the fabric cover, which is fastened with tension straps and can be easily removed at any time – for example, to clean the cover or change its color. Thanks to the flexible structure, "Costume" can thus be easily adapted to individual wishes. "A sofa becomes recyclable through its modular construction," says the designer. With "Costume", he has not only changed the common structure of the furniture but also sustainably optimized the basic concept.
